Safe roof saves lives, but did you know that there are about 7 million roofs built far from standards in Turkey today ?

Millions of surfaces that aren't built to standards can cause a high risk of potential earthquake. In addition to these roofs, power panels, water tanks, and dish antennas placed unplanned on them carry the risk of increased damage in the event of an earthquake .

So what loads on the roof are dangerous? What measures should be taken ?

Tips for Safe Roofs

  1. Unauthorized and unplanned additional loads are not allowed on the roofs. In situations such as storms and earthquakes, serious injuries and deaths can occur both in and around the building to which the roof belongs .
  2. Ensure that the roof construction is done by experts .
  3. If the transverse joints that meet the horizontal loads in the earthquake are not worked on the roof, column or truss or made incomplete, it may cause damage and destruction during the earthquake .
  4. The roofs shall be connected to the reinforced concrete material in such a way that it can withstand the loads that may come from all directions. Long-term performance is reduced only with screw connections .
  5. Unsuitable applications that do not use screw and anchor systems, i.e. not fixed on the reinforced concrete structure, have a high seismic risk .
