Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu announced that the death toll from the torrential rains and floods in the south of the country has risen to 14.

Soylu said in a press conference held in the state of Sanliurfa, on Wednesday, with the Ministers of Treasury and Finance, Nureddin Nabati, and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Wahid Kirishji, that the area affected by the earthquake disaster on February 6 witnessed heavy rains starting from Tuesday morning.

He pointed out that the heavy rains increased at dawn on Wednesday in the states of Sanliurfa, Adi Yaman and Malatya, which led to torrential rains and floods, according to what was reported by the Turkish "Anatolia" news agency.

Soylu revealed that the disaster resulted in the deaths of 12 people in Sanliurfa, and two in Adi Yaman, and that searches are continuing for 5 missing persons.

Authorities evacuated several people from a flooded camp in Sanliurfa, where earthquake survivors were sheltering in tents.

Video clips reported by the Turkish media and social media users showed the torrential rains, which led to the erosion of soil and vehicles, and significant material damage to buildings and shops.
